LongTail Video has an immediate opening for a Software Engineer in our New York City headquarters. We are looking for talented and enthusiastic engineers who have a deep foundation in core computer science fundamentals, diverse technical experience, and a knack for learning new technologies.

The Product: JW Player

LongTail Video is a pioneer in online video technology. The JW Player for Flash and HTML5 is our flagship product and is active on over one million websites and streams billions of videos each month. It is used by a diverse group of publishers, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to individual bloggers. The JW Player supports a library of plugins and skins that customize their JW Player, used by over 300,000 sites.

How You Will Shape the JW Player:

In this role, you will contribute to the development the JW Player for Flash & HTML5, its variety of AddOns, and various video advertising integrations. You will be given a wide-range of responsibilities from interacting with our active user-community to working out complex technical challenges with our seasoned engineers. It's an exciting time to be in the web video space, and working on a well-known open source project will give you the opportunity to help shape the transition to HTML5 and mobile platforms.

In This Role You Will:

• Directly contribute to the development of the world's most popular open source video player
• Design and build cross-platform components using the latest web technologies
• Develop technical specifications and take ownership over product releases
• Work on a cross-functional team to define business requirements and set product direction
• Contribute to and work across many different projects and technologies, as needed

Qualities We’d Like You to Have:

• B.S. or higher in Computer Science or related field
• Ability to rapidly learn new technologies
• Excellent knowledge of JavaScript required
• jQuery, ActionScript 3.0/Flash are a plus, but not required
• Knowledge of or experience with HTML5 is a plus, but not required
• Experience with CSS also a plus, but not required
• Motivated, self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
• Graduated from a top-tier university or computer science / technology program a plus
• 0 - 3 years of experience
